Rather than patch i decided to install new floor pans.
When the replacement panels have a spot weld flange i punch 1 4 holes in the panel and plug weld the panels if i ve got more flange i ll use 3 8 holes.

This is a 1980 classic mini clubman saloon.
Weld from below filling in the joggled edge and if you want it to look invisible grind the weld back flush.
The floor panel is around 1 1mm thicker than other body panels on a mini so you should be able to butt weld if your fit up is okay.
This has been patched many times in the past.
If it s a whole floor it should be plug welded to replicate the original spot welds.
If it s repair panels butt welds are better in terms of rust prevention.
This gives you a double seam of weld around the patch with the overlap on the inside hidden under the carpet whilst from below the repair will be near invisible especially if it gets a textured finish like stonechip.
Then ground down both welds top and bottom with a die grinder.
Just about every minis floor pans will most likely suffer rot.
I have nearly removed all of the old floor and need to decide what is the best technique for welding the new floor to the existing tunnel.
Then use urethane seam sealer to seam up the weld area front and back after it has been epoxy primed.
